Tomorrow (Friday) The Learning Shop at Bluewater will host its popular and successful annual Jobs Fayre.
This event, as well as the day-to-day work of the organisation, has helped more than 45,000 people get back into work.
When I was elected in 2010, more than 2100 people were unemployed, now less than 900 people are claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance, and I would say The Learning Shop and our local Job Centre in Dartford, have played a huge part in this.
As well as being peoples’ favourite location to find retail jobs at Bluewater, The Learning Shop offers many services including customer service training, retail apprenticeships and support with CV writing.
I am really looking forward to opening this year’s event, which is expected to have more than 1800 job vacancies available on the day, 20 per cent more than last year, in a range of fields from retail and hospitality to engineers and drivers at over 80 retailers and restaurants.
Since opening its doors in 1999, Bluewater has been a great addition to our area. Not only does it employ thousands of people, but it also offers a unique leisure and shopping destination which appeals to all ages.
Anyone from teenagers to older people benefit from the safe, pleasant environment where they can spend the day shopping, going to the cinema or eating at one of their favourite restaurants.
Its involvement as a sponsor of Darent Valley Rugby Club is just one of many ways it is involved in our community.
Bluewater has established itself as a quality brand, which sees itself as very much part of the community and not above it. We are lucky to have such a great organisation in the heart of our area.
