Dartford MP, Gareth Johnson, has welcomed an announcement that Dartford is included in one of 25 trailblazer areas where mental health services for children and young people will be transformed.
As part of the plan, the NHS will unite with schools and colleges in these 25 areas to provide expert mental health services for up to half a million pupils.
North Kent CCG Grouping: Swale and Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley CCGs will see mental health teams based in and near schools and colleges, with support starting from next year.
Gareth Johnson MP said: “This is good news for Dartford and I welcome these plans. For many years, we have not done enough to help people with mental health problems but this is now changing. We must do more to tackle the stigma attached to this issue and assist children and young people as much as we can.”
One in nine young people aged five to 15 had a mental health condition in 2017 and teenagers with a mental disorder are more than two and a half times more likely to have a mental disorder in adulthood.
