MP calls for answers over Bob Dunn Way flooding
Date: Fri 24th January 2014
Dartford MP Gareth Johnson has called on KCC’s Highway Department to show him first-hand what is being done to get Bob Dunn Way open and to tackle the flooding which is a regular occurrence on the road.
Mr Johnson met with the highways team from Kent County Council (KCC) at discuss the long-term plans to deal with the ongoing flooding issue.
He said: “Local residents and business owners have suffered a lot of inconvenience because of this problem. We cannot continue to have people suffering from extra congestion caused by the ongoing closure of this road.
Since the flooding started, I have been in regular contact with residents, businesses and KCC and I wanted the council to show me exactly what they were doing.
During the inspection Kent County Council confirmed to me the road is will be reopened on Monday morning, providing we don’t get serious problems with the weather over the weekend.
As far as the long term plan is concerned the county council will be putting in permanent pumps to tackle the ongoing challenges of flooding in the area.
Because of the proximity of the road to the Thames no one is ever going to be able to guarantee it is going to be flood-free but these measures will make flooding far less frequent and this is to be welcomed.”
