It is good to see unemployment has again fallen significantly in Dartford in 2014 and that wages are increasing faster than inflation.
Figures released last week revealed 907 people are now claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance and this is the lowest level since July 2008.
In Dartford the unemployment picture is improving faster than other places. In fact this year there are 489 less people claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance, compared to the same time last year.
This is good news, especially in the run up to Christmas and it is great to see more people are in work and able to support their families.
These figures reflect the overall improvement in the economic picture we have seen in Dartford over the past year.
We have seen improvements in manufacturing opportunities locally as well as in the service and retail sector. Innovative approaches from Dartford’s Job Centre have also helped many people back into work.
With hundreds of new businesses opening, unemployment falling and the number of apprenticeships rising, Dartford is steadily getting back on track.
There is still some way to go, but Dartford is now working again.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
