General Election

GJ Transport Questions (2) June 2015

On Tuesday, The Prime Minister announced that a General Election will be held on 8th June and she will seek Parliamentary approval to ensure this can happen.

This election will take place on the basis of the existing parliamentary constituency boundaries. Notwithstanding the proposals from the Boundary Commission, the ward of Hartley and Hodsoll Street will form part of the Dartford constituency for the purposes of this election.  It will also not affect the County Council elections taking place on 4th May.

I welcome the announcement made by the Prime Minister. It is right that people will be able to determine who is going to lead us into the negotiations to leave the European Union in the strongest possible position. This means a Prime Minister with a mandate from the British people and a Government committed to achieving the best possible deal for the UK, outside the EU. Whoever leads the next Government must do so with a strong hand in our negotiations with Europe.

This election will not just be about Brexit, it will also be about who is the most competent person to lead our country.

Dartford is Britain’s oldest bellwether seat, having returned an MP from the governing party at each election longer than anywhere else. I will be putting myself forward to continue to serve the people of Dartford and help Theresa May continue her work.
