Gareth Johnson MP for Dartford has been appointed to the Science and Technology Select Committee.
Gareth said “My appointment to the select committee will provide me with the opportunity to be involved with formulating Government policy in the areas of science and technology. Both of these areas affect the majority of Government departments whether it be health or the teaching of science in schools.”
The Committee scrutinises the Government Office for Science (GO-Science), which is a organisation based within the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The Committee has a broad remit and can examine the activities of departments where they have implications for, or made use of, science, engineering, technology and research.
A large part of the work of the House of Commons and the House of Lords takes place in committees, made up of MPs or Lords. These committees consider policy issues, scrutinise the work and expenditure of the government, and examine proposals for primary and secondary legislation. Select committees operate largely by an investigative process, presenting findings to the Government.
Gareth said “I hope that this appointment provides me with another platform to represent the interests of Dartford in Parliament.”
