Gareth attends opening of new Breast Cancer Unit at Darent Valley Hospital

Empress Unit

On 14th February 2014 Gareth was delighted to be invited to the official opening of the new  breast cancer unit at Darent Valley Hospital.

Gareth gave a speech during the opening of the Empress Unit paying tribute to the work of the hospital’s chief executive Susan Acott and consultant Seema Seetharam, who pioneered the development of the Unit.

The Unit will significantly improve the experience of patients who are undergoing assessments and treatment for breast cancer. The Unit is the only one of its kind in Kent and Medway and is a ‘one stop shop’ for patients offering greater dignity, pioneering treatment and reconstruction techniques.

Gareth was able to tour the new unit and speak to patients of the hospital who will benefit from the new unit. The unit will bring together all the hospital’s services for breast cancer patients.

After the visit Gareth said;  “This will provide almost a one-stop-shop for local residents. It is traumatic enough for people as it is when they are suffering with cancer and this facility means they no longer have to travel into central London for treatment.”
