Gareth Johnson MP has today welcomed the announcement that ministers have reached a deal to allow new developments for homes in the Dartford constituency to be built after years of being stuck at the planning stage.
The agreement will see the construction of over 22,000 much needed homes, with the first phase seeing 1,500 homes built at the Eastern Quarry site, next to Bluewater shopping centre.
“The Eastern Quarry development has the potential to be a great opportunity for Dartford and I am pleased that the plans have finally been approved. The building of so many new homes will respond to the shortage of housing which has been a problem in the area for some time and I am confident that the plans drawn up by the DfT and the Highways Agency will ensure that the proper infrastructure is in place in time. I welcome the news that the development will bring as many as 60,000 jobs, almost half the number of people registered as unemployed in the whole of South East England. This is clearly going to be a great benefit to the constituency.”
