Terrorism and Tragedy

The past few months have been a very difficult time here in Britain.

As well as multiple terror attacks in London and Manchester, last week’s deadly Grenfell Tower block fire left countless people dead and has shocked the nation.

Many people have been killed, injured and traumatised by these events and in a statement on her 91st birthday, Her Majesty the Queen said ‘it is difficult to escape a very sombre national mood’ following this succession of terrible tragedies.  But she said, ‘put to the test, the UK has been resolute in the face of adversity’.

I agree with her wholeheartedly. Throughout all of these tragedies, people in the UK have been doing what they can to help. It has been heartening to see how communities have come together in defiance of such awful events.

We have also witnessed the outstanding bravery and professionalism from our emergency services in their response to all of these incidents.

As we move forward there will be difficult days ahead but we must stand strong and never let fear and hate divide us.

Ultimately we will defeat those who seek to divide us by remaining united in our determination never to allow these people to win.
