Dartford MP welcomes the Oyster Card to Dartford Station

After a long-fought campaign, Dartford Gareth Johnson MP has welcomed the fact that passengers can now use the Oyster card at Dartford Station.

People travelling in and out of Dartford Station will now benefit from the convenience of swiping in and out with their pre-paid card as well as paying slightly less for some journeys.

Mr Johnson said: “Getting the Oyster card for Dartford is something I have campaigned on for a long time so I am pleased to see it is finally arriving.

No one is claiming it is a magic wand which will make all our rail problems disappear but having Oyster will make travel more convenient for people using Dartford station.

We have received confirmation that no fare will increase as a result of this extension and in fact, a number of fares will be reduced.

People can continue using their current ticketing system or switch to Oyster if it works out better for them.

This is the beginning of a process, which will include the introduction of smart card technology next year, and I am looking forward to seeing it rolled out further in the constituency in the near future. “
